Description Peter Albrecht 2012-02-04 11:35:01 UTC
Version: 2.5.0 (using KDE 4.7.4)
OS: Linux

In "Settings -> Configure digiKam -> MIME Types" you can configure which types of pictures/movies/audios you want to see in digiKam's album view.

But there are situations where viewing all kind of MIME Types would be helpful. E.g. text-File or GPS tracks.

I'm not asking for editing those files with digiKam. Just to see them, know that they are there and moving them to other folders/albums.

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:
From digiKam mailing list, posted by Jean-François Rabasse:

The reason why I always use a file browser rather than DK to
organise, move, copy, etc. comes from my personal definition of what is
an album. I have images files but also misc. extra files such as GPX
files from my GPS logger, some text files, comments, travel notes, etc.

And I wish to keep all this grouped with the pictures, in folders and
subfolders. From my point of view, an album is *all*, images files,
GPS tracks, travel notes, etc.
As DK ignores non images files at scan time, I can't handle all that
from the DK GUI via select + move actions. With a files browser I "see"
all my files, images or not images, and organisational work is far more
comfortable.

Suggested solution, posted by Ben Staude at the digiKam mailing list:

There is the option to add specific extensions as image, video or audio files,
but I'd really very much appreciate the simple option "show all files". From a
technical point of view, this shouldn't be much of a problem.

This bug is somewhat related with bug #216412.

Go to "setup/album view", and turn on option to show image format information over thumbnail.

It's not enough for you ?

Wow, Gilles, your response was fast!

No, I meant something different. I gimp'ed a screenshot, what I was thinking about. (See attachment #68483 [details])

I don't want information about the icons I _already_ see in album view, but I meant displaying _additional_ icons for files which are not typical digiKam JPG, PNG, MOV, ...

digiKam is a photo (and for the future video) manager. It's not a file manager. Sorry...

We want to be foczlized on photo world. Other files are secondary. You can use a file manager as dolphin for that...
