Version: 4.6 (using KDE 4.6.0) OS: Linux I was prompted to report this as a bug via the reporting tool that was invoked automatically upon the crash of kpackagekit. I got all the way through the reporting tool's process, but it would not let me complete it, with the message "Error sending the crash report: /Sorry, entering a bug into the product kpackagekit has been disabled./". I have no idea what to make of this. I have pasted below the contents of the crash report that would have been sent had the reporting tool not had this error. It includes a description. Application: kpackagekitsmarticon (0.6.3.3) KDE Platform Version: 4.6.00 (4.6.0) "release 6" Qt Version: 4.7.1 Operating System: Linux 2.6.37.6-0.11-desktop i686 Distribution: "openSUSE 11.4 (i586)" -- Information about the crash: - What I was doing when the application crashed: kpackagekit was in the process of downloading software updates. The only other activity on the machine was in a konsole, where as root I had issued a series of mount commands for NFS and SMB mounts (some of which failed owing to the remote machines not being available). This openSUSE installation is running as a guest operating system in a VMware Player virtual machine running on Windows XP. -- Backtrace: Application: KPackageKit (kpackagekitsmarticon), signal: Segmentation fault [KCrash Handler] #7 0xb628ec75 in QWidget::metric (this=0x817c5e0, m=QPaintDevice::PdmDpiY) at kernel/qwidget_x11.cpp:2747 #8 0xb6437706 in logicalDpiY (this=0xbfb6bae0, font=..., pd=0x817c5e8) at ../../src/gui/painting/qpaintdevice.h:96 #9 QFont::QFont (this=0xbfb6bae0, font=..., pd=0x817c5e8) at text/qfont.cpp:715 #10 0xb6237c39 in QWidgetPrivate::updateFont (this=0x81709e8, font=...) at kernel/qwidget.cpp:4779 #11 0xb6237b6c in setFont_helper (this=0x81709e8) at ../../src/gui/kernel/qwidget_p.h:417 #12 QWidgetPrivate::resolveFont (this=0x81709e8) at kernel/qwidget.cpp:4756 #13 0xb6249e54 in QWidget::setParent (this=0x817c5e0, parent=0x0, f=...) at kernel/qwidget.cpp:10030 #14 0xb624a46f in QWidget::setParent (this=0x817c5e0, parent=0x0) at kernel/qwidget.cpp:9950 #15 0xb624dfb3 in QWidgetAction::releaseWidget (this=0x817c728, widget=0x817c5e0) at kernel/qwidgetaction.cpp:207 #16 0xb669822e in QMenu::~QMenu (this=0x8177350, __in_chrg=<value optimized out>) at widgets/qmenu.cpp:1396 #17 0xb7521f04 in KMenu::~KMenu (this=0x8177350, __in_chrg=<value optimized out>) at /usr/src/debug/kdelibs-4.6.0/kdeui/widgets/kmenu.cpp:164 #18 0xb7521f42 in KMenu::~KMenu (this=0x8177350, __in_chrg=<value optimized out>) at /usr/src/debug/kdelibs-4.6.0/kdeui/widgets/kmenu.cpp:167 #19 0xb760e648 in KStatusNotifierItem::~KStatusNotifierItem (this=0x8158a68, __in_chrg=<value optimized out>) at /usr/src/debug/kdelibs-4.6.0/kdeui/notifications/kstatusnotifieritem.cpp:121 #20 0xb760e8e2 in KStatusNotifierItem::~KStatusNotifierItem (this=0x8158a68, __in_chrg=<value optimized out>) at /usr/src/debug/kdelibs-4.6.0/kdeui/notifications/kstatusnotifieritem.cpp:124 #21 0xb6fc6d04 in QObjectPrivate::deleteChildren() () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #22 0xb6fcbb8c in QObject::~QObject() () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #23 0xb6e407e6 in KpkAbstractIsRunning::~KpkAbstractIsRunning (this=0x8137b10, __in_chrg=<value optimized out>) at /usr/src/debug/kpackagekit-0.6.3.3/libkpackagekit/KpkAbstractIsRunning.cpp:31 #24 0x08057260 in KpkUpdateIcon::~KpkUpdateIcon (this=0x8137b10, __in_chrg=<value optimized out>) at /usr/src/debug/kpackagekit-0.6.3.3/SmartIcon/KpkUpdateIcon.cpp:52 #25 0xb6fc6d04 in QObjectPrivate::deleteChildren() () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #26 0xb6fcbb8c in QObject::~QObject() () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #27 0xb6fb6060 in QCoreApplication::~QCoreApplication() () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #28 0xb61f3699 in QApplication::~QApplication (this=0xbfb6bf88, __in_chrg=<value optimized out>) at kernel/qapplication.cpp:1071 #29 0xb752fa18 in KApplication::~KApplication (this=0xbfb6bf88, __in_chrg=<value optimized out>) at /usr/src/debug/kdelibs-4.6.0/kdeui/kernel/kapplication.cpp:892 #30 0xb752fa88 in KUniqueApplication::~KUniqueApplication (this=0xbfb6bf88, __in_chrg=<value optimized out>) at /usr/src/debug/kdelibs-4.6.0/kdeui/kernel/kuniqueapplication.cpp:343 #31 0x0806d4cb in main (argc=135728192, argv=0x10) at /usr/src/debug/kpackagekit-0.6.3.3/SmartIcon/main.cpp:52 Possible duplicates by query: bug 291243, bug 291242, bug 289659, bug 288059, bug 287722. Thanks. Good to see that this bug has been fixed. Which means I was just imagining the crash, since my software was all up to date, right? You have marked this bug as a duplicate of one that was fixed in December 2010. Reading that bug history, it is impossible to tell what the fix was or whether there was really any fix. It contains a comment that openSUSE needs a packagekit-qt patch that was developed for Kubuntu. This is followed by a comment that says the bug is being closed because openSUSE's version of packagekit does NOT include this fix. Huh? Could I suggest that these bugs get reopened and the patch incorporated into the package?
