The Folder View after clicking on the widget. A scrollbar used to be found at the right

Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.8.0)
OS: Linux

After the 4.8 update, it has become impossible to scroll the Folder View widget when it is positioned at the panel. Before, a scrollbar used to appear whenever one clicked at the widget. Now, there is no scrollbar and it is impossible to scroll in any other way, e.g. using the mousewheel.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Add the Folder View widget to your panel.
2. Open the widget's settings and select a folder containing many files and subfolders (e.g. home folder).
3. Click on the widget.

Actual Results:
The list of files and subfolders has appeared, but without any possibility to scroll it, neither via a scrollbar nor via the mousewheel (see the attached file).

Expected Results:
The list of files and subfolders should be scrollable both by mousewheel and via a scrollbar (as it used to be in previous versions).

I would like to add that this bug only appears when the panel is on the left or right side of the screen. If the panel is on the bottom or top side, everything works fine.

It is NOT a duplicate of bug 292741! That one is about the Icon View, this one is about the List View!

Reopening.

Hi!

Same problem here on 4.8.1, and since 4.8.0.
I have the folder view widget located in the panel. The panel is located at the bottom of the screen.
I've also tried to place a panel at the top of the screen and this problem is not present when using the folder view widget in such panel.

Hi guys,

any hope to get this issue solved?
Do you need some help to debug this?

Hi:
I'm having the same problem since kde 4.7. I have a panel on the bottom of the screen. No vertical scroll bar on the folder view widget.

I'm now using KDE SC 4.9.5

Yes, me too.

I can confirm this bug on Debian Sid with KDE 4.8.4 & 4.9.5. A folderview popup from the panel can only show as much files as fit into the screen height. I'd like to add that there is not only missing a scrollbar, it is also impossible to scroll the list with the mousewheel and it also is not possible to use the cursor or page up/down keys to move the list to files that are out of sight.

It is possible to use the right click menu and it is possible to drag files to the desktop but apart from that the whole list is static.

No, not true here. It is static independent from the position of the panel.

And the problem this persists in KDE SC 4.10.2, the popup is a static list of files in the height of the screen, no way to see all the files that don't fit into the screen height.

Any contributers with a patch?

Can anyone ask for help with from a KDE/QT dev (if this bug's really important to you)?
Comment 17 Janet 2014-05-23 11:27:22 UTC
I noticed another strange effect (KDE SC 4.12.4). The expanded folerview list overlaps the panel when the folderview widget is in the *bottom* panel (so I cannot re-click the icon to close the list).

When I drag a folder onto my *upper* panel to create a folderview list everything is fine: The expanded list does not overlap the panel - and there are scrollbars and I also can scroll the list with the mouse wheel.

I have tested it with different user accounts, all the same.

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!
