Works here. Is Klipper running?
Comment 2 illumilore 2012-01-24 00:20:10 UTC
Yes, clipper is showing up in the system tray, and the copied text is still present in klipper from the system tray after the window closes, but ctrl-v still does nothing and the paste function is grayed out when right clicking in a text field in something else.

Can't reproduce. Feel free to reopen if this still happens in 4.9.3 or later.
Comment 4 illumilore 2013-02-07 02:49:15 UTC
This is completely reproducible in 4.10 for me, although I can only reproduce it on one of two kde systems that I tried.

the old klipper had a feature to turn this off, but the new one hasn’t.

confirming for plasma 5/kf5

of course it has. There were no features removed.
Comment 7 Philipp A. 2014-11-07 10:59:38 UTC
then it doesn’t work anymore.

i have the “prevent empty clipboard” option checked, but upon copying something and then closing the application i pressed ctrl+c in, i can’t paste the text anymore.

i have to select another past clipboard entry and the the one i want again to make it active, i.e.:

i copy “foo” somewhere.
i copy “bar” in kate.
i close kate.
i can’t paste anything, the clipboard is empty.
i click on “bar” in klipper.
i still can’t paste anything.
i click on “foo”, then “bar” again in klipper.
i can now paste “bar” without re-opening and re-copying, but it’s a pain.

at least not the affected 4.x version. The affected 5.x version: probably yes
Comment 10 Ruman Gerst 2015-05-03 22:41:48 UTC
Seems to be caused by "Clipboard Settings" > "Selection and Clipboard" > "Only text selection"

[translated from german]
Plasma 5.3, Kubuntu 15.04 Backports

The option is turned on by default. If I disable it, it seems to work until I re-enable it.

Is this fixed? I have noticed this few times recently when copying a text from http://buywebsitetrafficreviews.org/ and closing window.

I believe that this bug should have higher priority under KDE "Usability & Productivity" initiative. It may be confusing to new users, and it's a quirk which requires "learning around".

Take such scenario for example:
User encounters a bug and wants to report it. He/she then proceeds to open up kinfocenter to copy relevant system information, then after clicking "copy to clipboard in english" he/she proceeds to close that window.
Next that person goes to his/her browser to paste what has been copied.
Surprise, it doesn't work, and assuming that this person is not using keyboard shortcuts, "paste" item on right click context menu is greyed out.
At this point manual action of selecting relevant snippet from klipper is needed.
Comment 15 Nate Graham 2019-05-30 18:07:29 UTC
Please do not assign bugs to other people.

It's not clear what the bug here actually is. The case specified in the original bug works fine for me. In general, if closing the window clears the copied text, then that means it was actually in the internal X11 clipboard rather than in Klipper (this limitation in X11 is one of the reasons for Klipper's existence). This would point to Klipper being misconfigured or not running.

If anyone can reproduce the issue, please add a comment that includes detailed Steps To Reproduce.

demonstration

Apologies for assigning you, I just was curious if you were interested in investigating this issue further.

My bug was was marked as duplicate almost two years ago, it's a bit different than that one.
Text gets copied and can be pasted, as long as source window is open. If it is closed in the mean time then clipboard "loses focus", item is still in klipper but there is nothing to paste.

Allow me to demonstrate.

On further investigation, I was the one who marked it as a duplicate. Maybe I was wrong on doing so.
Comment 18 Christoph Feck 2019-06-04 22:06:34 UTC
Closing this one, because you reopened the other ticket.
