I was opening a pdf from hard disk and okular crashed.  I also had a pdf open in a google chrome browser window, so I don't know if that was associated with the crash.

Are you sure you are not mixing some kde 4.8 or self compiled okular in there?

No, definitely no self-compiled code, all downloaded from standard repositories.

I've done the same as before and it didn't cause a crash.  There have been quite a few updates and a reboot since the crash so I can't be sure that the the software is the same now.  Sorry I couldn't be more helpful with this.
