Description someone 2012-01-19 09:42:37 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.4)
OS: Linux

Hi,

as we have it now, the user will be prompted to set an electronic wallet for storing all the passwords. This is actually a great idea.

The annoying part of this is, that after having set all this in the required way, Kwallet always asks that the application I started some seconds ago, needs to have access to the electronic wallet. There is a button "always grant access", which makes me think, that this application from now on always has access... but it has not. It always asks for access after starting it again...

The Gnome guys also have such a system. Called "gnome-keyring" and this system is able to open its "wallet" right when the system starts. So, all the apps which need access to passwords and so on, can access them and the user is not asked and asked again.

One practical example, on how this feature would improve the KDE users life is:

- now we have Kmail2. Kmail2 so to say "forces" the user during setting up the E-mail accounts, to use Kwallet. It does so with a bunch of failure messages and afterwards with not being able to log into the IMAP mail account, because it cannot store passwords (my impression).
So you use Kwallet...
But at some random moment, kwallet decides to close all wallets. And after that, the user wants to write an E-mail... he can not send it. Because Kwallet is closed and Kmail2 is not able to login. Kmail2 also can not open kwallet. There is no message. The user doesn´t know what to do. The same goes with fetching E-mails. Kmail2 just says "fetching mails, please wait". The truth is: it can´t because Kwallet is closed. No message at all.

So, opening Kwallet at system start and letting being open as long as the system runs, would be a huge improvement.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
no known steps

Actual Results:
1. kwallet asks for permission to open a wallet. This is annoying.

2. not using kwallet makes programs like Kmail2 or Kopete not usable, as they always lose the passwords

3. kwallet closes unexpectedly and kmail2 can´t fetch or send mails anymore without failure message and without possibility for the user to recognise the issue and to fix it.

Expected Results:
no annoyance, working smooth like silk :-)
