Version: 2.0.2 (using KDE 4.7.3) OS: Linux The new K3b version 2.02.2 has problems! The DVDs I made with previous versions of K3b would copy on the fly an 8 hour DVD in about 7 to 8 minutes. Now it takes over 25 minutes to do the same! Even worse is that the error free copies I made then can't even be read without a read error now in K3b 2.02.2! Its abending on the video segment at the end which I deleted from the original master DVD! So, with the only subsequent action left being Cancel the partial DVD copy isn't finalized either! Now, setting Force Unsafe actions on seems to finalize one but, it still detects the same bad segments where before the same were not detected! And, this new DVD copy will not play in any DVD player where before it would! An option should be given that assumes all the mastery of the source DVD has been already taken care of! And, it has!!! Then, to this end to get that complete disregard of DELETED video segments (a blind copy) AND the much faster copy time of 7 to 8 minutes, per DVD copy! This is invaluable when making several copies like say 4 or 5! Or, 28/35 minutes required compared to 175/200 minutes now or, 3 plus HOURS! And, as it is now, this imperfect copy K3b makes now will not play in any DVD player! As is, this latest version of K3b is useless to me or anyone else that has these new problems with what used to be perfect! HELP! Using xcdroast or Brasero is also pain as compared to what the previous version of K3b was! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Try a DVD created with a previous version of K3b where some videos were deleted on the original master (on a DVD-R) and see if K3b 2.02.2 will even read it! It won't! Then, see how long it takes to copy on the fly and it takes 10 times as long now! Actual Results: I can no longer make copies of what I used to make copies of! With the same tool! Expected Results: I expect to keep making copies as before! And, in 1/10th the time, too! And, that the copies will play in a DVD player! Keep making copies of sources that it used to make copies of! Do it in 7 to 8 minutes, too! And, be playable on any DVD player!
Which distribution is this about? Also, https://bugs.kde.org/page.cgi?id=bug-writing.html provides some information how to write a good bug report that is helpful for developers. This one is pretty hard as it's rather unstructured plus misses good steps to reproduce.
This bug happens on Linux distributions Ubuntu 11.04 (k3b 2.0.2-0ubuntu4 installed on 2011-10-19) and Mandriva 2011 which has downloaded K3b version 2.02. Platforms are Ubuntu-11.04-desktop-i386; Mandriva-2011.0. It is the same for these 2 different pcs with different DVD ROM and Writer drives. The governing criteria here is: A) A DVD that was copied with a previous version of K3b that 1) copied the master DVD, an 8 hour DVD source in 7 to 8 minutes! 2) Did not flag the deleted video, at the end as a read error! Further info here is that back then (1.2 years ago) I made one copy of the original master DVD. That now, both the master DVD and the copy gets read errors! Where before there were no read errors! The original master DVD was authored on a Samsung DVD recorder that copies VHS tapes to DVDs.
