Description gerard 2012-01-12 23:45:33 UTC
Version: 4.7 (using KDE 4.7.3)
OS: Linux

After a DIFFICULT migration from kmail 1 using akonadi, some messages cannot be displayed (receiving folder contents...Please wait).
It is impossible to delete the messages or to open them in any way.
I am using a stock Ubuntu version.
Some messages I could read are no more readable.
It looks like some messages crash the daemon.

When starting KDE, I have hundreds of messages which say kmail is unable to write in its folder (but the name of the folder is not displayed).

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
Launch KMail and try to read your messages.

Actual Results:
The titles of the messages are displayed, but not the contents.

Expected Results:
Read the messages

Would like to know a method to export the messages to another mail client, after more than 10 years using kmail

Perhaps an idea, launching akonadiserver

Screenshot please from messagebox which signal that you can "When starting KDE, I have hundreds of messages which say kmail is unable to
write in its folder (but the name of the folder is not displayed)." please

Do you use nepomuk ?
Comment 5 gerard 2012-01-13 10:49:56 UTC
I use what Ubuntu decided. I have no information about what is used (strigi-nepomuk-akonadi -whatelse)

How can I know ? hoh can I see what services are running, and how to aunc and debug them ?

I must admit that KDE4 is beyond my skill

look at if nepomuk is active (kcmshell4 kcm_nepomuk)
Disable it for the moment if it's active

After disabling nepomuk kmail and akonadiconsole are empty. all is blank.

After re-enabling, there is no change : no more mais at all, nor folders, nor nothing.
Comment 8 Laurent Montel 2012-01-15 10:09:21 UTC
nepomuk doesn't change status of folder.
Are you sure that you didn't disable akonadi ?

After robooting, I can see again the mail list.

When attempting to see mail contents, I hear my HDD make much noise, with no clear reason given by TOP.

In akonadiconsole, on the line Nepomuk email feeder, I get
Système occupée (with a mispell) Indexation suspendue.

After clicking on Restart, I get Prêt à indexer les données. (but nothing occurs)

I updated to last version on Ubuntu.
I can read my mails again until... I want to read a mail with a calendar.
then, I have to restart KDE.

Is there a way to restart the mail feeder only ?

thanks

mail with calendar ? .ics ?
kmail freeze ?
I fixed it in kmail -4.8
Perhaps you can define a calendar it froze because it try to access to an not existing calendar.

"killall kmail && akonadictl stop && akonadictl start"

Fixed in 4.8 (new problems occur now, - stay tuned !)
