Description Chris Maple 2012-01-03 06:53:37 UTC
Version: 3.8 (using KDE 4.6.5)
OS: Linux

While running mplayer, kmix, PulseAudio Multiband EQ. In kmix, Settings -> Audio Setup brings up Phonon KDE Control Module. Phonon had 3 tabs: 1-Device Preference, 2-Speaker Setup, 3-Backend. While trying options in Speaker Setup - Hardware - Profile, I chose "Off". Sound immediately stopped and the tab disappeared, never to return. System notifications still work, and audacity still produces sound, but mplayer, xine, and streaming players launched from firefox (iheart radio) do not work.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
See details above. I suspect that choosing the "Off" option in "Speaker Setup - Hardware - Profile" of "Phonon - KDE Control Module" is the only thing that matters.

Actual Results:
Sound gone. Rebooting doesn't help, tab #2 in Phonon never reappears. "Defaults" button does no good, and "Reset" button is grayed out.

Expected Results:
I expect sound. "Speaker Setup" tab should NOT disappear, because this makes it impossible to recover.

OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.35.14-106.fc14.i686
Compiler: gcc
Motherboard: Asus P7P55D-E PRO
CPU: Intel Core 7-870
Sound: HDA Intel VT1828S

Reassigning from KMix to Phonon.

Is this still valid with Phonon 4.6.0 or current git and a recent KDE 4.10.x?

I doubt this is a phonon issue, tbh.
