Description Paolo Poli 2012-01-01 15:28:06 UTC
Version: 4.4 (using KDE 4.4.5)
OS: Linux

i have Kubuntu Lucid 10.04.3 i386 (KDE 4.4.5) installed on a netbook "HP Mini 110-1100SL".

Pushing the combination: Fn+F1 (sleep button) makes the netbook stand by, the system wakes up normally by hitting enter button.

Everything's fine so far but;

closing the LID instead, makes the netbook stand by, the system wakes up when the LID is newly opened but the screen remains powered off. (it isn't simply a black screen, it's actually OFF).
Funny part at this point is that while the system is running and the screen is OFF; if you close the LID again, the stand by mode does not trigger, and Opening the LID once more, actually switches back ON the screen.

Finally you have the system working normally again.

There's indeed something wrong with the open/close LID handler event.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1) have a netbook/notebook with kubuntu 10.04.3 i386 KDE 4.4.5
2) choose a power saving profile which triggers stand by mode when the LID is closed
3) close the LID
----the system enters stand by mode------
4) open the LID
------ the system wakes up ----------
5) the screen is not yet ON
6) close the LID again
------the system runs still ------
7) open the LID
8) screen is now ON

Actual Results:
the screen is still OFF after opening the LID (for the first time) while in sleep-mode.

Expected Results:
when opening the LID for the first time while in sleep-mode, the system should wake up and the screen should turn ON together.

OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.32-37-generic
Compiler: cc

KDE 4.4 is quite old. If I remember correctly, there are quite a lot of changes in the power management in KDE 4.7 and 4.8. It is quite possible this problem has been fixed or is not valid any more. Please try KDE 4.8.4 or higher.
