Version: 2.1.1 (using KDE 4.7.3)
OS: Linux

I am trying to add a new shortcut for the 'Add a Face Tag', but can not find this function in the action list of the 'Configure Shortcuts' dialog.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Actual Results:
Add a Face Tag is not listed in the actions list of the configure shortcuts tag

Expected Results:
Add a Face Tag will be listed in the actions list of the configure shortcuts tag

Is there any plan to add this feature? It would be incredibly useful when tagging lots of photos.

Since some versions works CTRL + left mouse button to add a face.

@Maik Qualmann: Oh, that's great! I had no idea you could do that. Maybe I missed it in the documentation. It would be useful if there were an indication of that shortcut in the tooltip for the "Add a Face Tag" button. Maybe something like "Add a Face Tag (Ctrl + L Click)"

jat255,

If this solution is enough can we close this file ?

Hi GIlles,

It's suitable for me, but I didn't open the initial bug, so I can't speak for everyone. If it is not incredibly difficult, having the ability to use a keyboard shortcut to initiate the process would be helpful. I could picture a faster workflow where a keyboard shortcut initiates a face tag of predefined size at the current cursor position. That would eliminate the slowest part of the process, which is dragging the mouse to make the box a certain size. Usually in one group of photos (at least for me), most faces are about the same size, so this could certainly speed up the process.

I'm willing to work on this issue given minimal direction from core developers.

Hi, I suggest an easy fix to RESOLVE this 8 years old issue.

As shown in the 4th comment the shortcut actually already exists - "Ctrl + draw a box". It is a very good shortcut, but unfortunately almost impossible to discover (like a secret key combination) and I also was convinced Face tagging in digiKam is terrible before learning about this shortcut.

I suggest as a solution to change the tooltip text under the "Add a Face Tag" button to:
"Add a Face Tag (or hold Ctrl + draw a face region)". This would make the shortcut more discoverable.

In addition the shortcut is now mentioned in my new tutorial on digiKam wiki: https://userbase.kde.org/Digikam/Tutorials/Tagging_and_Face_Tags#Face_Tags_.E2.80.93_How_To

And it is hidden somewhere in the documentation: https://docs.kde.org/trunk5/en/extragear-graphics/digikam/using-facetagging.html

The tip already exists in the online documentation:
