Description Tom Weir 2011-12-27 10:34:45 UTC
Version: 2.6.4 (using KDE 4.6.5)
OS: Linux

I am trying to change the fstab file using konsle . Initially I could use the su command and then type my root password but now konsole will not type the password on the command line. I can get out of the su command by pressing enter key but I then get the message invalid password. I also tried with the sudo command and was asked for my username pasword but the result was the same as above but the command line response at the end was that I had made 3 invalid tries.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Type su on konsole command line

Expected Results:
Should allow me to enter a password and access files as a Super User

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.39.4-4.2-server
Compiler: gcc

Thanks for reporting!

However, the described problem sounds quite mysterious to me.

> Initially I could use the
su command and then type my root password but now konsole will not type the
password on the command line.

So 'Initially' it worked in konsole, but 'Now' it doesn't? Or it initially worked in other terminal emulators, but now it just does not work in konsole?

And what does "konsole will not type the password on the command line" exactly mean? Does it mean your just can't input anything of your password, or does it mean you can't input the correct password when using konsole? You can try enabling the 'pwfeedback' in /etc/sudoers to check whether it is the first case.

And do you use any input method? If yes, it is more likely the fault of input method.

Please provide more information, because I can't reproduce and have never encountered such problem.
