Description connerleecml 2011-12-23 16:44:07 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.3)
OS: Linux

I have hdmi audio set as default but when I go in to kaffeine, dragon player or amarok the sound still goes through my laptop. A couple of random times it would go through dragon player. Testing the hdmi audio output to my receiver works. In other words I can here the sound going through to the reciever. I can only guarantee that my hdmi audio will work if I use VLC and go to the settings and bypass the audio output set in kmix. I have the vlc and gstreamer backend. No difference. I remember being able to fix this in Kubuntu somewhat. I use KDE in Chakra and Arch Linux and this problem occurs and is very annoying. I have tried in both distros setting hdmi as default for video and sound and even all the categories. I do not have this problem in Gnome 3.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
Set Video and Audio to Digital Stereo HDMI output or something like that

Set laptop to output through HDMI to tv/reciever

Open Dragon Player or Amarok and play a video

Actual Results:
I setup hdmi audio output to default in KMIX I test the speakers and surround soudn works

I close KMIX

I open Dragon Player and there is a small chance that my sound will go through the hdmi output and not my laptop speakers

The same thing in Kaffeine, Amarok

Expected Results:
All Applications by default should follow KMIX settings

Adobe Flash Player almost always follows the KMIX settings in Firefox/Chromiuim

This is somewhat fixed in KDE 4.8.1. I can effectively and manually set in kmix > audio setup > audio hardware setup but device preference is still not respected.
