Description optiluca@gmail.com 2011-12-22 22:30:27 UTC
Version: 2.5 (using KDE 4.7.3)
OS: Linux

Hi. I installed Amarok 2.5.0 and am experiencing (yet another) pretty annoying bug, where Amarok will sometimes just skip over a track in the playlist. The OSD will display the track title, then will immediately display the next one and play that.

Manually clicking on a track will then often cause Amarok to start playing the next track in the playlist! (So for example, if I double-click track 2 on an album, amarok will briefly highlight it, then highlight track 3 and play that).

I have only observed this behaviour with flac files (but not all, and not consistently), and am using the gstreamer backend. Pls do ask for more info if required

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
- Make playlist (containing flac files)
- Play
- Wait for skipping to occur

Expected Results:
Play tracks in order without skipping :-)

This is a known bug with the Phonon-backend-gstreamer. You should make sure you use the 4.5.1 version at least or use the phonon-backend-vlc instead.

I have moved between vlc/xine/gstreamer numerous times, in order to avoid a whole selection of bugs. Xine has been dropped by my distro (though it was the only one that always worked), and vlc still has some quirks with video (partially breaking dragon player and others). Gstreamer is the lesser evil overall, so I'll be sticking with that.

##RANT## Why does Amarok have to rely on Phonon??? It just seems like a massive source of bugs which have to be dealt with (slowly) by upstream, and require constant workarounds in the meantime ##End of Rant##

Anyway, is 4.5.1 referring to the phonon-backend-gstreamer version? Or am I waiting for the next Amarok release?

Yes, that was of course for the phonon backend.
FWIW, the phonon-backend-vlc 0.4.1 is working flawlessly here with both Amarok and Dragonplayer.
And Amarok uses Phonon simply to avoid code duplication which wouldn't make much sense. Both the gstreamer and the vlc backend are well maintained.

Alright, I have switched to phonon-backend-vlc 0.4.1, but now dragon isn't opening realplayer streams (which I use daily). I know I'm barking up the wrong tree here, but I am still to find a backend that actually works for everything...

BTW, I'm already running the 4.5.1 gstreamer backend so I guess I'll wait for the next release of that and try switching back.
