Created attachment 66733 [details] A screenshot to show it. Version: 2.0 (using KDE 4.7.3) OS: Linux When I try to play a .avi file (sorry I can't test with other format) the video doesn't appears. In the video part of the dragon player I can see the window below dragon player. The audio works properly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Open a .avi file. Actual Results: The video doesn't appears. Expected Results: Dragon player sould show the file instead of window below it. OS: Linux (x86_64) release 3.0.0-14-generic Compiler: gcc
Which phonon backend do you use? Usually Ubuntu comes with the gstreamer one, please install phonon-backend-vlc, set it to default in the Systemsettings -> Multimedia -> Phonon and try again
(In reply to comment #1) > Which phonon backend do you use? Usually Ubuntu comes with the gstreamer one, > please install phonon-backend-vlc, set it to default in the Systemsettings -> > Multimedia -> Phonon and try again I'm using gstreamer. I change it to vlc and now appear the image but the black bars top and bottom of the image not (instead I can see the window below).
Thank you for the feedback. I wonder what is special in your installation, I use dragonplayer with avi files and the phonon-backend-vlc without any problems, Kubuntu 11.10 with KDE 4.7.4 from the backports PPA How do you start the video?
either this is an insanely old ubuntu or it sounds like the graphics driver is busted actually.... particularly since with vlc window distortions appear, so the screenshot could just be the very same issue but presenting itself differently. I recommend trying to upgrade the graphics driver or use another version of it (i.e. if you own a AMD or Nvidia chip you could switch from the free driver to the proprietary one or vice versa).

I switch to propietary driver from repos (version 280.13) and it still equal.

I tried to start clicking the .avi file and running before dragon player and selecting it from contextual menu. Then if I do a clean install it work?
