Description greylander 2011-12-12 17:51:03 UTC
Version: 4.8 (using KDE 4.7.3)
OS: Linux

nepomukservicestub spammed my .xsession-errors file and filled my partition (about 20GB) overnight, with message:

   [/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub] (process:8778): GLib-WARNING **: poll(2) failed due to: Invalid argument.

and same message dropping the prefix of "
[/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub]", so:

   (process:8778): GLib-WARNING **: poll(2) failed due to: Invalid argument.

I had desktop query configured with all subfolders of root checked (that it allowed me to check) and option to index "all removable media" selected.

When my partition filled up, I thought maybe the index database had become too large, but instead found this massive .xsession-errors log file.

Version: this is whatever version of kde and nepomuk/strigi are included in latest release of kubuntu, amd64 (downloaded and installed a couple days ago). I'm logged into a different ubuntu partition and I don't know how to check the versions, so the versions I entered are guesses.

It would be a good idea to provide instructions or link to instruction on how to get version info next tot hose entries in the bug report web form.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
Not sure how easily I can "reproduce". I have desktop query configure for entire filesystem and "all removable media". Not sure if that is the cause of the problem.

I also happened to run a couple different searches in dolphin (starting from root (/)) and left those search windows open overnite. That's all I can think of at the moment.

Actual Results:
.xession-errors gets spammed.

Expected Results:
not to have partition filled up with error log.

I am calling the severity a "crash" because once drive fills up unexpectedly, system is so slow as to be effectively "crashed" (requiring hard reboot). It is at least "major" since such situation could easily cause data-loss.

Correction: KDE & Nepomuk versions for this bug are 4.7.2. (at least the nepomuk config help->about give 4.7.2 as of the "config" application... not sure how this relates to the version of nepomuk, strigi, etc. components.

I also want to emphasize that I have seen the other bugs about nepomuk spamming the .xsession-errors,but the error message that my .xsession-errors file is filling up with is different from those. So I think this may not be a duplicate, unless the problem is with the underlying systems by which all nepomuk messages are reported to .xsession-errors and not related to the particular error message.

You can generally get this information in any KDE application. Help -> About KDE.

Does this problem still occur in KDE 4.9? Cause this seems like an installation problem.

Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this project has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug. Development has moved to Baloo, please try again using the latest version and applications, and submit a new ticket for frameworks-baloo if you still have an issue. Thank you!
