This only happens in Icon mode for me. I'll set the importance to minor, as this isn't a wish, but a bug.
that annoying and ancient usability problem affects dolphin 18.04 on Arch Linux. I do not understand why importance was set to "minor".
I chose to set the priority to minor as this is a rather specific usecase (normal users will not toggle the preview function a lot) + it only happens with icon mode. I have raised the priority again, as there is apparently an interest in having this bug fixed.
I've just confirmed this on latest Dolphin, but it moves to a different part of the folder list for me as it changes icons to a larger size.
Possibly this bug is related to the behavior described in bug 422120.
