Description Santosh K 2011-11-23 06:59:07 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.2)
OS: Linux

Laptop brightness is not changing automatically when power profile changes. By default it is at its maximum brightness.
It did not change when I tried manually. I can see a brightness meter on the screen but the actual brightness is not effected.
I'm using Kubuntu 11.10 on Sony VAIO VPCEG2AEN (Intel HD Graphics 3000)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
All the time, when ever I try to change the brightness of my laptop screen, it doesn't change.

Actual Results:
Brightness doens't change.

Expected Results:
Brightness has to change.

It should decrease the brightness and increase accordingly.

I have same trouble, with ati radeon hd 7600 series. The free driver doesn't work fine.

Are you still able to reproduce this with 4.9.5 or 4.10? a lot has changed in this regard since 4.7

Thanks !

Yes, I still have the same problem (Intel HD 3000). I am currently using Kubuntu 12.10 which had KDE 4.9.5.

I could find a temporary fix for this..

I write values (0-4822) in the file "/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness" to change the brightness.

Sorry for the delayed response, apparently I did not get your reply on my inbox.

Can you try with 4.11? we changed a bunch of stuff for this version, I really hope it will fix it for you :/

You can use the Neon project, it will install KDE 4.11/2 in a way that does not break your 4.9.5

Thanks !

Please, if you can still reproduce this bug feel free to re-open it.

I have installed Kubuntu 14.04 alpha 1 (KDE 4.12.1).
The problem still persists. The laptop brightness doesn't change using the keyboard shortcut (example: Fn + F5/F6), although I can see brightness meter changing on the screen.

I have noticed few changes in this version of KDE.
"Enabling/Disabling Touchpad function (on laptop)" through keyboard shortcut is functioning now, which was not in earlier versions.

Thanks for the update.

This bug is reported on libsolid which is the kdelibs4 version of the solid library. It is now in maintenance mode. If you think it should still be fixed in the KDE Frameworks 5 version of solid please move it to or report a bug on frameworks-solid or Powerdevil.

Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this project has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug. Please try again with the latest version and submit a new bug to frameworks-solid if your issue persists. Thank you!
