Description Marc 2011-11-15 11:50:48 UTC
Version: 3.98.x (using KDE 4.4.5)
OS: Linux

When making a money transfer from normal bank account "girokonto" to investment fund I cannot select the invstement account in the drop-down or manually.

A normal double bookkeeping never filters accounts. I should be able to book whatever I want from whatever account to whatever account. This is what bookkeeping is about - the bookkeeper is to know what he does but having the freedom to choose.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
N/A

Actual Results:
N/A

Expected Results:
Ability to choose from: any account to: any account in KMyMoney.

OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.32-5-686
Compiler: cc

Do you have a brokerage account attached to that investment account? That should be selectable for transfers from checking accounts.
Comment 2 Marc 2011-12-15 16:47:40 UTC
No, I have no account associated with it.

As a workaround I simply deleted the account and re-created it as a different type bank account "giro". Now I can use it as desired.

Money can only transferred to brokerage accounts. Otherwise, investment operations have to be entered from the Investments view.
Comment 4 Marc 2012-05-01 11:11:55 UTC
Hi Alvarez,

Thanks for answering.

I think it depends on the point of view. Either from an accountants perspective where every booking should be possible or a systemic view as an aid to "normal" users.

I have made a workaround for myself no longer using investment accounts but assigning a standard bank account.

Cheers

Mark,
I'm not sure whether you understand the actual restriction in KMM. An investment account only holds securities, no money. When any investment transaction is entered (in the investment account) if there is any money required (to buy) or generated (sell or dividend) you specify which account that money goes to or comes from. Normally that is the account specified as the brokerage account for the investment account, but it can be any account that holds money. If you have an account with a brokerage firm that has both securities and investments, in KMM, you have to use a pair of accounts: one investment for the securities and one cash/saving/checking account to hold the money. You can transfer funds from your checking account to the specified brokerage account and then use it to buy stock, but you can't transfer the money directly to the investment account. If you want to buy stock using money in your checking account, you can do so, but not by transferring the money - just specify the checking account in the stock purchase transaction, which has to be entered in the investment account.

Hi,

Thanks for clarifying it. Now it's clear why I have to use 2 accounts.

Cheers
