Which themes do you refer to? Plasma themes, KWin themes, icon themes, etc.?
If you can provide the information requested in comment #1, please add it.
me too!!
Created attachment 70566 [details] Screenshot of a bug Also affects me: kubuntu 12.04 x86_64, kde 4.8.2. The bug refers to "Desktop Themes" (i.e. Plasma Theme). See the attachment. Also the button "Install from file" is missing. Is this a reason for new bug report?
(In reply to comment #4) > The bug refers to "Desktop Themes" (i.e. Plasma Theme). See the attachment. I mean that new themes are not shown in the list even after X restart.
Thanks for the update. Reassigning to plasma developers.
@ elvenfighter@qip.ru: did this Amakage theme really install itself? I get a link to a HTML page when trying to install it although then KNewStuff marks it as "installed" when it's not (which would be a bug). So please check this theme is indeed locally installed. Second, what other themes also do this? I personally installed several and they work and appear rightly in SystemSettings. "Get New Themes..." gets themes that are uploaded to kde-look.org but unfortunately there are no checks on the validity of those themes. Some are broken, others are not stored on kde-look.org (hence the redirection to another html page). Any problem with specific themes should be reported to their author through the kde-look.org theme page. If you reproduce this bug for ANY theme then there is a bug but as I said, I installed several themes and they show (Neon Glow, Glassified, Arezzo, Helium One, to name a few). @gaurav.bhandari85@gmail.com: what are the 10 themes names please?
@ annma@kde.org: You can see that not only 'Amakage' theme is not displayed. I've opened _installed_ themes section and Amakage + Helium are there (see screenshot). But you were right - other themes are installed sucessfully (So it's probably a theme bug). But how I can install downloaded themes without 'Install frm file' button?
You download the theme directly from its webpage (kde-look.org or http://opendesktop.org) and unzip the theme in ~/.kde/share/apps/desktoptheme/ to install a theme. (.kde or .kde4 depending on what is used by your distribution) I can't try Amakage now as OpenDesktop.org is down...
Can we close this as it's only some specific themes that are not following the rules to be used with Get New Themes?
(In reply to comment #10) > Can we close this as it's only some specific themes that are not following > the rules to be used with Get New Themes? Hm, I think that themes, which were installed with errors should be marked somehow (not just 'Installed'). But this is slightly related to the bugs title. + I miss the 'Install from file' button. But this can be can go other bug report. So if there's no work to be done on this report I think that it is worth closing.
Thanks a lot for the follow up! I think there could be some improvement in KNewStuff dialog: the Installed button should be enabled only if the theme is installed (this is at the level of KNewStuff which deals with Get Wallpapers, Get Screensavers,...) Also as a wish you can open a bug report asking for an "Install from file" in this System Settings Plasma Theme Manager. And all wrong themes authors should be notified that their theme fails to install with Get New Themes.
