Audio Preferences

Version:           unspecified (using KDE 4.7.2)
OS:                Linux

1. I changed the mainboard from a ALC888-based one to a ALC887-based one (MSI, A75MA-G55). What did not come up: 5.1 audio. No way to set it through the applet.

2. I inserted a kubuntu 11.10 install-CD and booted vanilla: No 5.1. Though it is recognised by the kernel.

3. 5.1 can be set in pavucontrol, though.
3.1. Then, against the 'Preferences', it comes up as second, identically named audio device. Then the 5.1 can be activated.
3.2. Despite of saving the settings with 'Apply', the next time the Audio Hardware Setup sits again on 2.0.

$ dmesg | grep ALC
[   45.304585] hda_codec: ALC887-VD: BIOS auto-probing.
$ dmesg | grep sound
[   45.230934] input: HD-Audio Generic HDMI/DP,pcm=3 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.1/sound/card0/input4
[   45.347132] input: HD-Audio Generic Headphone as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.2/sound/card1/input5
$

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Boot from Install-CD

Actual Results:
No 5.1

Expected Results:
5.1

Actually, this lookes like a bunch of bugs: No detection, the 'Preferences' are not respected, the display is not saved.

Hardware is always and invariably 2.0 HDMI

The Audio Hardware Setup is always HDMI 2.0.

The lower of the two identically named ones is 5.1

And despite of 'Apply', the next call will bring up the HDMI 2.0 again. And again. This was not the case with the previous mainboard, ALC888 (BioStar TF7050).

If the applet makes any sense, it should be possible to select 5.1 to actually play; without pavucontrol.
It should be obvious that the higher 'Preference' results in 5.1 coming up as default (though it is always the lower preference that comes up on top).
And 'Apply' should latest guarantee that 5.1 Audio Hardware shows up the next time when using the applet.
