You mean to add POIs as a bookmark? Or create some sort of custom map? Would be great if you could elaborate a bit, thanks.

IIRC the bookmarks are allready there. I'm talking about showing them on the map by using some customizable icons.

> Or create some sort of custom map?

That would be the second step, so you can have for example different categories of custom POI's.

Firstly, as this is my first post, I must thank the Marble team for creating such a great piece of software.

But not too great, that there could not be room for improvement. I too believe that visible personalised POIs would be an essential addition. Althought I cannot be sure if the original poster meant the exact same thing as I, I'll try to phrase what I would like.

In Google Earth the user can create his own POIs that appear on the map as pins. Also, in Maep (N900) the user can create his own POIs that appear as little squares. They are essential in marking down places that are of personal importance to the user. While many users like to have some markers for things like "my house", "my friend's house", etc, it would be completely unworkable to enter such things as POIs into the Openstreetmap database. Also, while markers for "that store I once bought those things from", "that restaurant I liked" and "the hotel I'm staying at" may well be listed as Openstreetmap POIs, it is far more easier for the user to make his own POIs than try to remember the correct name and search for it.

The current bookmark system fails to meet this need, as the bookmarks are not visibly marked on the map. Thereby I ask for the following improvements, divided into steps as per my belief (as a non-coder) as to how easy they would be to implement.

1. Draw some sort of a marker on the map at the point(s) of any bookmark(s). As there already are all sorts of icons and images for various plugins, a simple colored ball should not be too hard to implement.

2. Create a categorizing system for the bookmarks. Draw different categories with different colored balls, or with different icons. Perhaps the current bookmark folder system could be used in this, one folder equaling one category. Allow the user to select what categories of bookmarks are visible.

3. Allow the user to bind links to the bookmarks. A bookmark could be linked to a file on the user's computer (like some text notes) or a weblink, that gets opened with the appropriate program for the file's mimetype or a browser, when the bookmark is clicked. In the way of the current Wikipedia plugin.

Am I coherent enough for you grasp the idea?

Sorry, let me correct myself. The N900 app with user enterable POIs is not Maep, but Mappero.

Can you please open a new feature request (bug) for these two points so they don't get lost?
