Description Warzin 2011-10-27 09:54:46 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.2)
OS: Linux

My panel layout is made by one bottom panel (auto-hide), one right panel(auto-hide) and two left panels, one of which is auto-hide and the other one is always-visible. At session restore (login or exit from suspend) the two left panels share the same top-left location and visibility property, i.e. they overlap and are both always-visible or auto-hide. To be more specific, both panels inherit the last settings I made: if I require one panel to be auto-hide, then at next session restore both will be, if I change a panel location, then at the next session restore both will share it.

The always-visible left panel contains CPU and RAM monitors while the second one contains directories icon shortcuts. Anyway it does not matter what lies in these containers, the bug is present even when the panels are empty.

As the other panels work flawlessly I surmise the problem comes from the fact that they both share the same side of the desktop.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Restore the desktop : logout and in again, or suspend and exit from suspend.

Actual Results:
Settings are not preserved, both panels share the same top-left position and visibility property. The settings used for both panels are the ones having been changed last for a single one.

Expected Results:
Every panel should remember its properties independently of the other.

I tried to see what could go wrong in ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-*rc, but saw nothing. In particular I was amazed not to see any explicit property for visibility, but maybe it is embodied in the "formfactor" property in plasma-desktop-appletsrc... ?

Erratum : exiting from suspend does not affect the panels, as it does not restore the desktop session

Something similar here.

Previous panel configuration:
- Default panel (excluding the task manager) in the south, centered
- Auto-hide panel containing the task manager to the west, centered

Change done:
- Removed system tray from default panel
- Created a new panel to the east, bottom - added system tray there

After restart:
- The western panel suddenly isn't centered but at the bottom
- The eastern panel is _not_ at the bottom, but at the top

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
