Version: 2.3 (using KDE 4.6.5) OS: Linux The Russian letter and sylable sounds are "clipped" in length, with the end of the sounds "cut-off", when using pulseaudio. This seems to be problem with just the Russian sounds, though I've only also tried English, British, and French letter and syllable sounds, which all seem to work fine with pulseaudio. The repository only has english and french sounds, where did you get the russian sounds from?
The sound files are available in http://files.kde.org/edu/klettres/ Yes, that URL is pretty well "hidden", though I suppose not intentionally. I can't remember how I stumbled upon it, and these do not seem to be in the git repository, as you noted. This runs the "KLettres Add-On Installer", which may hang for a time with "Loading data". This appears to download the compressed file, uncompress, and save it to ~/.kde/share/apps/klettres/. So then, that is another way to access these Russian sound files. I would add that I am hearing these "cut-off" Russian sounds on Debian Sid/Unstable with PulseAudio Version: 1.0-4, alsa-base Version: 1.0.23+dfsg-4, through Intel HDA and an Analog Devices AD1981 codec. I also just downloaded the Ukrainian sounds, on the off-chance that there would be anything similar with the Russian sounds. The Ukrainian sounds mostly work fine, but a few letters sounds cannot be heard at all, specifically м н and ж. If these same sounds are played with, for instance, paplay, they play just fine, as do the Russian sounds, played directly with paplay. So maybe there is a clue here, between these Ukrainian and Russian sound files. James
I've just noticed that there is one Ukrainian sound which sounds "cut-off", as with the Russian sounds - the sound for й. But then, this letter sound sounds the same when played through paplay, and since I am not a Ukrainian speaker, I don't know if this is not the way the letter sound _should_ sound. The sound sounds "cut-off" to me - but I don't know. On my sound system, the sound seems to end immediately after the start of the "t" sound in "yot", with the end of the "t" sound missing, or perhaps with the entire "t" sound missing. James
The Russian sounds seem to be working fine now, after upgrading from debian kde 4.6 to debian kde 4.7, now with klettres 4:4.7.4-2. At first, the Ukrainian sounds seemed to continue to have problems, but a little more looking, I see that the names of the sounds files are not properly matched! In the file ~/.kde/share/apps/klettres/uk/sounds.xml, note <sound name="Ж" file="uk/alpha/zh.ogg" /> <sound name="М" file="uk/alpha/em.ogg" /> <sound name="Н" file="uk/alpha/en.ogg" /> and in the directory ~/.kde/share/apps/klettres/uk/alpha/, the files are named zhe.ogg m.ogg n.ogg So, please choose one name or the other - simply correcting sounds.xml may be easiest. I'm not sure about yot.ogg. It still sounds "cut-off" to me, but I suspect the sound file itself is to blame, since it sounds the same when played with any other media player. I know KDE SC is up to version 4.8 now, but Debian tends to be a little behind the times, and just relesed 4.7. Hi James, thanks a lot for pursuing this matter. The Ukrainian xml file is now corrected in the svn repositories (thanks to Yuri) and I will update the tarball on http://files.kde.org/edu/klettres/ when I have downloaded the sounds!
