Version: 4.7 (using KDE 4.7.2) OS: Linux Ever since I've upgraded to kmail2, pop3 doesn't seem to work. I set up our company's pop3 server as one of my accounts. When I try to retrieve my mails, I get an error message, saying "<account name>: Unable to login to the server <server>. Opening connections is not supported with the protocol https." What's funny that this message doesn't get even one hit from Google, yet it is happening... I'd be happy to provide other information, so please let me know if you need any. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: Set up a pop3 account. Expected Results: The mails are downloaded from the server.
Don't know why it doesn't work. Are you sure that server/user/password/port etc is ok ?
Of course? It had worked right until the day I upgraded kmail. Then this message began to pop up. I deleted that account and created a new one, as I read somewhere that may help pop3-related issues with kmail2, but to no avail -- it still doesn't work. What with IMAP becoming unusable as well (dozens of messages popping up per second), segmentation fault when I try to send a mail (not mentioning I was asked for my password, even though it has been saved in my wallet for ages), I really can't see how kmail2 got the green light. Nevertheless, I would be happy to provide any information that could help you to solve this issue.
What I find strange is the message "Opening connections is not supported with the protocol https." Did you specify a wrong port ? Is the problem still an issue with current KDE 4.10.0 ?
This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present? If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kmail2 (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.12 or later), it gets closed in about three months.
Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
