Can you reproduce with a new user and default KDE settings (default theme, default icons)? Then from there please write the steps needed to reproduce the bug: how you change/add this icon (is it the icon for Kickoff that you changed? is it changed by your distribution? does it happen if you restart plasma-desktop ('kquitapp plasma-desktop' in Konsole, 'plasma-desktop' to restart it).

Thanks in advance for all those precisions.

I did created a new user and it happens like described.
This was done with KDE defaults, no distro specific changes or configs.

When running `kquitapp plasma-desktop`, you need to enter the command 2 times, else doesnt kill plasma panel, here it is the first output message:

~ ]$ LC_ALL=C kquitapp plasma-desktop
kquitapp(20066): "Quitting application plasma-desktop failed. Error reported was:

org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply : Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)"

The icon was changed by renaming the string 'start-here-kde ' in the .desktop file.
These are not distro packages, this is build by me.

I can't reproduce. When I remove my panel and add a default panel all icons stay at the same place. What is in your default panel? Does it happen with default panel before you add/change anything?

Are you runing kde builds from git master? (build from the last 10 days?)
To refer thats kdelibs from branch 4.7 and not kdelibs from master thats freezen.

Is this still valid with KDE 4.8.4 or later?

Hello! Plasma 4 was replaced by Plasma 5 four years ago by the KDE community. In that time we have made great strides in stability and functionality. We are closing all Plasma 4 bugs as most of them are no longer applicable to the new frameworks Plasma 5 is built upon. If you could, please re-test with the latest version of Plasma 5, and submit a new bug to "plasmashell" if you continue to have an issue. Thank you!
