Description Orion Poplawski 2011-10-18 21:55:30 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.2)
OS: Linux

When disconnecting an external monitory and selecting configure display I get a control center dialog with what looks like what I want - everything under VGA is greyed out. I select okay, but the desktop is still extended and the panel is still on the primary display which is the external display.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
- Connect external monitor
- Select configure when the display change notification appears
- Configure VGA as above LVDS, leave primary as "none"
- Unplug the monitor, select configure when the display change notification appears
- Click OK

Actual Results:
Panel is still not visible, desktop is still extended.

xrandr reports:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1624, maximum 4096 x 4096
LVDS1 connected 1024x600+0+1024 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 222mm x 130mm

   800x600 60.3 56.2
   640x480 59.9
VGA1 disconnected 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm
  1280x1024 (0xda) 108.0MHz
        h: width 1280 start 1328 end 1440 total 1688 skew 0 clock 64.0KHz
        v: height 1024 start 1025 end 1028 total 1066 clock 60.0Hz

Expected Results:
VGA1 is completely disabled, desktop is resized to LVDS size and panel reappears.

I can confirm this bug. In my opinion, the easiest bug fix solving this problem is to enable the apply button in the display settings dialog after removing the physical connection to a display.

Confirmed.
I've to run `xrandr --output VGA1 --off` everytime I disconnect the monitor.

Thank you for your bug report or feature request.

Unfortunately, we did not have a maintainer for the "krandr" components, which are used to manage displays and monitors in the KDE Workspaces.

The "krandr" components has been superseded by "KScreen" in newer releases of the KDE Workspaces. It is compatible with all versions since 4.11, and is also used with Plasma 5. Please check with your distribution how to update to KScreen.

If this issue or feature request is still applicable to KScreen version 1.0.5 or newer, please add a comment. We will then reassign this ticket to KScreen developers.

If you are already using KScreen to manage displays or monitors, and found a different bug or need a specific feature, please create a new ticket for "KScreen" product in this bugzilla using this link: https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=KScreen
