Description Thorsteinn A. Malmjursson 2011-10-16 18:03:49 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.2)
OS: Linux

The transition to the new apper UI from kpackagekit's original is not very user friendly - functions previously available via the 3 large (text identified) buttons on the left side of the UI have now been spread out, and the button to edit apper's settings and alter software origins, etc, has practically shrunk into nothing.

Is it possible to have the 3 UI buttons back in the interface as default for the next release of apper, so that people can see what they're looking for immediately instead of having to go searching for stuff, please?

At this point in time, asking the question "Can a new user find this feature without asking for help?" - at least for the Settings, the answer would most likely be "no".

Maybe consideration could be given to more advanced users, who could turn off said large UI buttons if they wanted to, or once they'd gotten used to stuff, but the new UI is quite a change, and not as easy to use.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
start apper
notice missing UI buttons, having to find stuff
get annoyed when you can't find things :)

Actual Results:
UI buttons were missing

Expected Results:
Should have found UI buttons so I could get to stuff quicker

none

Sorry it's not possible to change it back the the way it was before, actually the biggest problem was that there was too few space for the package line.
