Description William L. Thomson Jr. 2011-10-11 23:33:26 UTC
Version:           4.7.2 (using Devel)
OS:                Linux

In any local folder I am unable to delete an email. I can move or send it to the trash. Then empty the trash, and it appears to be gone. Trash emptied or not, if I update that folder and/or close and re-open kmail the email shows up again. The file is never deleted/removed even when the trash is emptied.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Move one or more emails to trash via button, right click, or delete button. Empty trash. Update folder or close and re-open kmail.

Actual Results:
Email re-appears in the folder it was deleted/moved to trash from.

Expected Results:
Email/file is deleted and does not re-appear when removed from trash.

This does not occur when moving emails to other folders. Just when ever I try to delete an email it remains. Only way thus far is to move to a folder and delete that folder. Recent convert from Gnome and Evolution, started with 4.7.1, and not sure if the problem existed in that version or not. But I can move one or more emails from any folder to another and there is no problem there.

Also I can go into the akonadi console, find the item in the browswer, right click and delete it that way. It does remove the file, and seems the problem is not so much with akonadi or deleting in general. Just how ever Kmail is communicating with akonadi or something along those lines. I tried getting some debug output in akonadi, but there was so much. Here is some info that some what shows whats going on.

Collection 8 is my inbox and 11 is trash, email file name remains the same, and is never deleted.

NotificationManager::notify ( Item (58121, 1318374890.R11.wlt:2,S) from collection 8 movedto collection 11 )
NotificationManager::notify ( Item (58121, 1318374890.R11.wlt:2,S) in collection 11 removed )
NotificationManager::notify ( Item (58122, 1318374890.R11.wlt:2,S) in collection 8 added )
NotificationManager::notify ( Item (58122, 1318374890.R11.wlt:2,S) in collection 8 modified parts (PLD:RFC822) )

Its been months since I reported this. I still cannot delete any emails. So glad I switched to Kmail from Evolution, which I never had problems with. I am a developer myself and can help resolve this problem. If someone would work with me, I am not familiar with the code base at all. Just amazed how problems like this would be ignored for months. I have to bugs that really effect my ability to work and make a living. Really trying to stick with KDE, but surely not feeling the love.

Finally able to delete emails, not sure which version fixed it but I think it was 4.8.x, thanks!

Sorry you didn't receive a timely answer. We're just quite short on manpower.
The behaviour you observed was probably connected to disabled auto-expunge/compact in the settings of the IMAP resource.
If the deleted mails reappeared greyed out, this is still the current behaviour, partly but not completely on purpose, and then it would be nice if you marked this one a duplicate of Bug #246257.
Thanks, and please give us another chance... :)
