Description jim h 2011-09-25 22:58:59 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 1.2)
OS: Linux

The LCD Weather plasmoid not starting after initial boot on wireless laptop using WICD but will work after logging off then back on.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
shut laptop off completely then start up. Using Kubuntu 10.04 on two different laptops

Actual Results:
After starting the laptops the desktop task bar will populate with all except the weatherstation applet. If I wait a while a box with a red arrow will appear saying that the applet did not start and this is after the wireless starts. Then will log out only then log back on and it works.

Expected Results:
it works

The applet should start upon boot from initial startup.

found that the weather station applet does the same thing as lcd weather. At times the wicd is delayed in starting. Some one else investigated this issue and said the following: "Seems that the problem is not in the LCD weather station applet, but in weather dataengine or solid that does not detect network coming up.
I'm not very familiar with those so I'm not sure if I can help
further.

Solid did not dectect wicd state changes until KDE SC 4.7.2. Can you upgrade to 4.7.2 and test if this problem still happens?

hey, I just downloaded the new kernel 2.6.32-36-generic ,,, and I don't
think they incorporated the changes you all made and resolved because the
weather plamoids are now not working again

I just upgraded to kernel 2.6.32-36-generic and the weather widgets are not working again. It looks like the changes were not incorporated in this kernel upgrade.

This problem has nothing to do with the kernel as far as I know. Are you using KDE SC 4.7.2 or 4.7.3? Anything below 4.7.2 is going to have this problem with Wicd.

And even if there is a problem in the kernel from KDE point of view this is still a duplicate of #226022. Please, do not change that.
