Description Aravind Gopal 2011-09-24 08:40:33 UTC
Version: 0.11.1 (using KDE 4.5.3)
OS: Linux

Selection button in the toolbar cannot change the selection type to text selection mode.
Its not easy to toggle between
1. Graphic/text section
2. text selection
3. no selection/Browse mode
need to select menu, especially to select text selection.
if we add text selection tool button. the behavior of the Graphic/text section button is not proper.
its better to give separate buttons for each. but only one will be enabled.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
Change from browse to Graphic/text section and then to text selection. you will be forced to select from menu. section tool button is not user friendly.

Actual Results:
behavior not proper.

Expected Results:
Easy toggle between
1. Graphic/text section
2. text selection
3. no selection/Browse mode
especially from the toolbar. 3 buttons appears good.

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.36-1-mepis64-smp
Compiler: cc

I do not see the problem, just hold the mouse over the selection button in the toolbar and then select text selection?
Comment 2 Aravind Gopal 2011-09-26 05:26:49 UTC
Yes if hold, it can be changed. the tool tip does not mention the procedure.
an average user will be in trouble.
Again unlike most toolbar buttons, its not easier/time-saving than a menu
selection.
If changed to toggle between text, image and 'if needed' browse with each
click in addition to holding - selection from a menu OR separate buttons for
each will be appreciated.
thank u.
I like KDE

The toolbar button with "arrow on the bottom right" used in Okular is used in lots of toolbars like KMail, it is a standard way to describe you can hold it and get more options
Comment 4 Aravind Gopal 2011-09-27 05:59:37 UTC
Sorry myself and my friends are new to KDE.
please add something denoting the arrow mark and/OR this potential of the
button in the 'tool-tip' and let people be aware. Its only a suggestion.
Even After 3 months we could not discover that and it may be the condition
of an average user.

Closing the bug as it is really not a bug but a lack of knowledge how common UI elements work.

I will try to think how to make it better but i don't think it can be done better without basically splitting the two buttons
