Version: unspecified (using Devel) OS: Linux Too much information is displayed on the task switcher. ie: if you open a picture, you'll see extra details such as screen resolution right below the application's thumbnail on the task switcher. Tested on 2011-09-21-16-36-meego-plasma-contour-in-progress-usb-live + today's latest bits. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open a picture 2. Open the task switcher 3. Take a look at the app's title Expected Results: There shouldn't be extra information on the task switcher.
screenshots would be very helpful with these kinds of issues. in any case, assuming i'm thinking of the same thing you were looking at when writing this: it's the application itself which is stuffing all that "extra information" into its window title. Peek shows whatever is the window's title. it could instead just show the application name, but that's often even less interesting to the user (and requires them to know the name of the app). alternatively, when compositing is on, it could simply show no text at all and we could rely on the user to navigate by thumbnail alone. (probably not great for accessibility, but then very little is on Plasma Active at the moment). this is an issue that probably requires some discussion. it would probably be better for these kinds of issues to be discussed first on the mailing list and then logging a bug report for the actual action item.
this is a bug, that has been already discussed at the workshop... sorry, maybe I spoke only to sebas about this, I cant remember... Currently in the peek area/tasks switcher all thumbnails are shown with a long title. this title contains always the name of the file, sometimes its size (as for images for example), and always its application with which it has been opened. in my opinion, only the name is relevant here. may it be "beach.png" or "web browser". The user doesnt care if its openend in gwenview, imageview or whatever image-view-app.... he wants to distinguish between the files. yes sure, the thumbnails helps, but maybe a short and precise title would help as well.
we can remove the application name in the peek area. but we can't do much else, however, without going around and patching individual applications.
@Fania: Does it make any sense to remove the application name in the peek area from the usability perspective? (Except for some apps like Konsole).
