Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.1) OS: Linux At around 5% of application openings/closings a taskbar entry doesn't appear/disappear from KDE 4.7.0/4.7.1's task manager plasmoid. Google Chrome was always one of the tasks when it happened, I don't know if it's accidental Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: open/close an application (Google Chrome should be one of them or not) Actual Results: one more or one less taskbar entries, that the number of really opened ones on taskbar Expected Results: opened applications' taskbar entry gets on, closed applications' entry gets taken down
I have this problem too - under 4.7.0 and 4.7.1 (OpenSUSE RPMs). I don't use Chrome or have it installed, but it happens with others - I've definately seen it with Firefox and Yast. Possibly related: I often find the panel with a gap where a window entry should be. It seems like the messages from the WM are getting lost somewhere, or aren't even sent - this affects not just windows closing, but desktop changes too. Opening/closing any number of windows doesn't help with any of these problems. Restarting plasma works, is of course total overkill. Steve
I'm not sure Steve's comment is completely related to the bug report (because I don't really understand the bug report) but I definitely have the same problem as the one described by Steve. It happens quite often (and since several KDE versions), that I have a lot of gaps between open windows in the taskbar. I will try to upload a screenshot to show the -ugly- result.

Created attachment 65235 [details] Screenshot of taskbar on Kubuntu 11.10 This also happens on my Kubuntu 11.10 system with KDE 4.7.2 (since I upgraded from 11.04 a couple days ago). Moving one of the applications right of the gap to another desktop, also moves/duplicates the gap on the second desktop.
This looks like a possible variant/dup of bug #275469
