bugzilla33,

Thank you for your bug report and your testcase.

In your bug reports, please try to avoid "do not work" and "should work" as actual and expected results; instead try to better describe those results.

From trying your testcase with Firefox 6.0.2 and Chrome 13, the textarea should allow 6 characters to be typed and displayed and the 7th character should not appear.

There is no maxlength attribute for textarea element in HTML 4.01:
http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/interact/forms.html#edef-TEXTAREA

But there is a maxlength attribute for textarea element in HTML5:
http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/the-button-element.html#attr-textarea-maxlength
says:

"
The maxlength attribute is a form control maxlength attribute controlled by the textarea element's dirty value flag.

If the textarea element has a maximum allowed value length, then the element's children must be such that the code-point length of the value of the element's textContent IDL attribute is equal to or less than the element's maximum allowed value length.
"
