Debug output of /usr/bin/update-notifier command.

Version: unspecified (using Devel)
OS: Linux

After the upgrading to Ubuntu oneiric, the System Notification Helper always reports "A system restart is needed to complete the update process."

I have restarted the computer several times, by several methods (/sbin/reboot, Start / Leave / Restart, /sbin/halt, clicking on the Notifier and allowing it to restart the computer), but still the same notification occurs on every login.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Restart computer and log in.

Actual Results:
System Notification Helper reports "A system restart is needed to complete the update process" and adds an orange restart icon to the systray.

Expected Results:
After the first restart, the notification should not reappear.

Upon reflection, I see that /usr/bin/update-notifier is a Gnome program, not a KDE program. I'm not sure how to run the corresponding KDE program, nor how to capture its output.

Perhaps this is related?

Comment 4 Bob Vincent 2011-09-13 18:39:42 UTC
Nope; after fixing the packagekit problem, the notifications problem remains.
Comment 5 Bob Vincent 2011-09-14 23:00:36 UTC
Just ran updates again, in the vain hope that this problem has been resolved somewhere. No such luck.

Is there any other helpful information that I could provide? My apt sources list?

update-notifier is developed by ubuntu. So report your problem to https://launchpad.net/update-notifier
Comment 7 Bob Vincent 2012-05-29 07:22:45 UTC
Thanks. Launchpad reports "update notifier must be configured in order for Launchpad to forward bugs to the project's developers."

So I have visited https://launchpad.net/%7Emvo/+contactuser to send an inquiry to the chief developer, Michael Vogt.
