Description Lyall 2011-09-01 10:44:29 UTC
Version: 2.4.3 (using KDE 4.6.5)
OS: Linux

File browser shows mp3 files but does not show m4a files.
Existing m4a files in my collection database play, they just do not appear in the file browser.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Files -> Browse to folder containing *.m4a audio

Actual Results:
No m4a files show

Expected Results:
m4a shows to be visible

Files are on an NTFS filesystem, mounted using ntfs-3g.

/etc/fstab mount info as follows :-

LABEL="D_Drive"         /mnt/d_drive    ntfs-3g         defaults,gid=ntfs,umask=0,umask=007,nls=utf8,silent,exec                1 2

Which Phonon backend are you using? Try switching backend, that might help
Comment 2 Lyall 2011-09-24 05:26:13 UTC
Was using gstreamer 4.5.0 back-end, switched to xine 4.4.4, no difference.

m4a files still do not show in file view. They still play and show in the local collection, however.
Comment 3 Myriam Schweingruber 2011-09-24 10:06:23 UTC
Well, the xine backend is outdated and unmaintained, you should try the vlc backend instead.
Comment 4 Lyall 2011-09-25 00:17:52 UTC
I only get the choice of Xine and GStreamer - both of which exhibit the same behaviour.
I have VLC installed on my machine.
I am using Gentoo 64 bit - I see no use build flags about vlc on the ebuild.
How do I add VLC to make it an option?
I don't use KDE desktop, I use fluxbox.

Did you try installing it? the package name is phonon-backend-vlc
Comment 6 Lyall 2011-09-25 09:01:17 UTC
Installed gentoo package media-libs/phonon-vlc - m4a files now show up in the file browser.

Thanks.

I suspect this could be considered a work around, what about xine backend not showing *.m4a files?
Comment 7 Myriam Schweingruber 2011-09-25 10:09:41 UTC
Please see comment #3, his is a workaround for a phonon-backend-gstreamer bug though.
