Which Phonon backend are you using? Try switching backend, that might help
Was using gstreamer 4.5.0 back-end, switched to xine 4.4.4, no difference. m4a files still do not show in file view. They still play and show in the local collection, however.
Well, the xine backend is outdated and unmaintained, you should try the vlc backend instead.
I only get the choice of Xine and GStreamer - both of which exhibit the same behaviour. I have VLC installed on my machine. I am using Gentoo 64 bit - I see no use build flags about vlc on the ebuild. How do I add VLC to make it an option? I don't use KDE desktop, I use fluxbox.
Did you try installing it? the package name is phonon-backend-vlc
Installed gentoo package media-libs/phonon-vlc - m4a files now show up in the file browser. Thanks. I suspect this could be considered a work around, what about xine backend not showing *.m4a files?
Please see comment #3, his is a workaround for a phonon-backend-gstreamer bug though. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 268896 ***
