 The file properties dialog shows the information as black text on dark grey; it's almost unreadable. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/digikam/+bug/831636/+attachment/2300991/+files/digikamunreadable.png

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Open digikam hover a pic

Actual Results:  
the popup isn’t readable

Expected Results:  
the popup should be readable

This have been fixed into 2.0.0 release. color theme used is KDE theme instead an embeded theme engine.
