Version: 4.5 (using KDE 4.5.0) OS: Linux I miss this possibility which would be very helpful when entering a lot of documents at a time when they are not presorted after the dates. Now, if i enter a document of (say as an exemple) 13th of December 2010, I can not immediately check if all my data is correct. Therefore I have to scroll up to the correct date, which makes the process very ineffective. I used to use Quicken and its various sorting possibilities in the were really extremely helpfull. The usual way to change the sorting of dates in the «Kontenbuch» (ledger?)(clicking on the title of the column) is not working. It might even be an idea to make ALL of these colums changable, eg the names (a -> z, z -> a), the number column (1 -> n), etc. It yould also be nice, if the user could change the size of the column width. Reproducible: Always Expected Results: Beeing able to see the entiry of data chronologically. OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.35-30-generic-pae Compiler: cc

Have you tried 'Settings/Configure../Ledger/Sorting, which gives quite a few options.
If you right click on the column heading, you have the option to change the sort order of the ledger from the default. It's a little more involved than just clicking, but it gives better control. I think changing the column width is already a wishlist, but I'm not certain.
Created attachment 62998 [details] Interface to personalise the sorting No idea ho to use this and what it does.

That's quite a common GUI allowing for multiple choices. If you've ever added icons to a tool-bar, you may have seen something similar. The small right-hand frame contains the fields on which the ledger will be sorted. At the top is the first field on which to sort, in this case on date. Then, after that sort, the next choice is acted upon, here reconciled items, etc. If it contains an unwanted option, select it then delete it. If you wish to change the sort order, click the item you want to move, then click the up/down arrows to move it. The pane on the left contains other fields on which you may sort. If you wish to employ those, select the click the right arrow to move it to the other pane, then adjust its position, as above. Have you checked the manual under 'Help' in the to menu?
Hi Yes, I have checked the manual and must frankly say I found a list of words, but not really a «helping text». However, I wonder if this is the right pace to have a discussion, maybe it would be better to discuss this in a Forum? If so, please guide me to any Forum we could dicuss this topic further and find a workable solution. Perhaps on last word: I am using Kubuntu in German.
I started by wondering if the German translation of the manual perhaps missed something, but I can see that the manual mentions the sort configuration tabs in the ledger configuration area, but it does not really describe how the sort dialog works. I'll add it to my list to improve for the next version. However, as Allan said, this is a fairly common form of sort control for a tabular display. A better place to discuss could be the users mailing list (https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kmymoney) or the forum (http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=96559) where I see you already posted.

I see you did find the correct forum. :-) Reading your post there, I got a better idea of your requirement, and it does exist already, having just tried it. 1) When viewing your ledger, right click on the column heading. 2) In the lefthand box you should see 'Entry Order.' Select it. 3) Now click the right pointing arrow. 'Entry Order ' should now appear on the right. 4) Use the 'Up arrow' to place it at the top. 5) You should now find that newly entered items appear at the foot of the ledger, rather in date order. 5a) If you wanted to have them at the top instead, select 'Entry Order then double click and the table will invert. 6) To revert to 'normal' date order, repeat step 1. 7) In the right box, select post date and move it to the top. 8) In future use, step 1 then 4 or 7 as needed. Hope that's what you wanted here. Oh, and on column widths, individual columns cannt be adjusted, but resizing the widow may give you what you need. I must say, my personal preference is for individual colun control.
Hi Allan Thanks a lot, I now have understood the system. Kubuntu is a bit difficult after using 23 years Windows and earlier Texas Instruments with Basic... But thanks to some Forums and the helpers there I am steadily learning. So, how can one close this Report now?
