Any chance that Kontact can have a system tray icon option to clean up task bar clutter?

Kmail has a system tray, if you enable it in kmail's settings, you can drop the whole of kontact to the system tray using the kmail icon by clicking on the icon. It's more like a workaround, but it does what you want.
