Description Terry Coles 2011-08-08 16:07:50 UTC
Version: 4.4.10 (using KDE 4.7.0)
OS: Linux

Whenever I try to enter an event, eg Appointment or To-Do, I get the following Error after entering all of the details and clicking on 'Apply' or 'OK:

'No calendars found, event cannot be added'

Also, my calendar is empty; all of my previous appointments are missing.

The Calendar is enabled in Settings and I've tried reloading 'std.ics' but this also creates an error (cannot write to it). I have full write permission on 'std.ics'.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
In Calendar mode:
1. Double click on a date in the calendar.

2. Enter details.

3. Click 'OK'.

OR

In To-Do mode:
1. Click 'New To-Do'.

Repeat 2 and 3 above.

Actual Results:
Dialog box containing:

'No calendars found, event cannot be added'

Expected Results:
Correct entry of event.

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.38-10-generic
Compiler: gcc

I have exactly the same problem. I tried removing all the korganizer config and data files, and starting it again, but the problem persists: "no calendar found" when trying to add any events.

I'd forgotten that I'd flagged this bug. I've fixed my installation, but it was a long and painful road.

I think the problem arose when I upgraded Kubuntu to V 11.04, although I didn't notice it until much later, so I can't be sure. I tried a re-installation of Kontact, to no avail, even when I deleted my config and other realated files in .kde.

I then decided to ignore it and wait for 11.10, which didn't fix the problem at all. Upgrading to 11.10 brought a whole lot of other grief, so I tried a clean install, which fixed much of the other grief, but not this.

I then bit the bullet and deleted my /home directory completely and did another clean install. This fixed the problem, even when I re-imported my calendar and other Kontact files from the backups.

So I know how to fix the problem, but not the bug. I can only say that there must have been a config file I didn't find that was making the calendar read-only, but I have no idea where.

Hope this helps. Even if you don't end up having to go to the lengths I did, it might trigger some ideas about the root cause of the problem.

Same story here with debian running unstable:
$ dpkg -l korganizer

ii korganizer 4:4.4.11.1+l10n-1 calendar and personal organizer

Cannot read my old appointments, cannot create new events.

Removing .kde is not really an option I would like ...

Which KDE version do you use in general? In particular, Thomas, were you using the KDE 4.7 packages from experimental?

Mirosław Zalewski and I were hit by this today after Debian testing went from KDE 4.6 to 4.7, except for kdepim (but including kdepimlibs): http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2012/03/msg00080.html

I am under the impression that this bug is caused by KOrganizer 4.4 not using compatible libraries.

According to the reporter of #281174, this is still happening with KOrganizer 4.8.1.

I found a workaround for this. Before I tried to create any events I went to File > Save As... and saved the calendar with a name I'll recognize. This let me create events without complaints although I'm not sure why a default, usable calendar wasn't created when I installed KDE in the first place.

I'm currently running KDE 4.8.4 from Debian testing.

$  apt policy korganizer
korganizer:
  Installed: 4:4.4.11.1+l10n-3
  Candidate: 4:4.4.11.1+l10n-3
  Version table:
 *** 4:4.4.11.1+l10n-3 0
        500 http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ testing/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Fixed in 4.8.

Now you choose the calendar in the editor, through a combo-box. If you don't have any, you can create one.

Sergio says this is fixed in KOrganizer 4.8 and above.
