Description Albert P. 2011-07-30 18:11:56 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.0)
OS: Linux

Prior to KDE 4.7, the Digital Clock settings had check boxes to specify what additional information you wanted shown. Checking the options "Show date" and "Show day of the week" gave a format similar to the current "SHORTWEEKDAY, Dd MONTH" without having to specify it in the locale.

I request for a similar entry added into the new Digital Clock dropdown list for a "compact long date" as the old style provided additional "long date"-style information, but did it in a compact non-obvious manner (SHORTWEEKDAY and no year).

Reproducible: Didn't try

Expected Results:
An additional Digital Clock date format entry for a "compact long date" that follows either the format "SHORTWEEKDAY, Dd MONTH" (pre-KDE 4.7) or "SHORTWEEKDAY, MONTH Dd" (compacted KDE 4.7 long date).

The current long date format default is excessively verbose. I can understand the necessity perhaps for other applications, but a shorter default format would be preferred to as closely mirror the functionality of the Digital Clock pre-KDE 4.7. This reduces the screen clutter while provided almost the same amount of information (only thing left off is the year, which does not change frequently enough to be warranted; also: this is why I chose the name "compact long date" as "long date" should always include a year for consistency).

It's easy enough to change it in the locale, but I am suggesting a new date format entry.

Correction: The day format is dD, not Dd.

Additionally, a suitable compromise is a custom date format field only for the clock.
Comment 2 Albert P. 2011-07-30 18:33:36 UTC
Correction: pre-KDE 4.7 used SHORTMONTH, not MONTH.
