Description S. Christian Collins 2011-07-30 17:23:20 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.0)
OS: Linux

Occasionally, rather than zooming to the appropriate task manager button, the minimize desktop effect zooms to and from the middle of the screen. It will continue to do this until another application is started (thereby creating another button on the task manager).

I was able to capture this bug in action inadvertently while trying to film a different bug. Here is the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw-3q7xMQAQ

You will see the bug occur very soon into the video (and throughout while I am trying to recreate a different bug).

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
This one shows up sporadically. It usually seems to happen, however, when more than one application has been started, perhaps after a few applications have been started and then exited. Obviously, desktop effects and the minimize animation will need to be enabled. I'm not sure whether or not this also happens with the magic lamp effect.

Actual Results:
The minimize animation zooms to the middle of the screen.

Expected Results:
I expected the window to zoom to its proper location on the task manager.

video shows duplicates of #246838 & #207258 - seems they're related

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 246838 ***

reopening, might still be related to #207258
Comment 3 Nikola Schnelle 2011-09-12 21:10:04 UTC
Bug is present in Kubuntu 11.10 KDE 4.7.1
Comment 4 Nikola Kovacs 2011-12-28 17:58:58 UTC
This happens to me every time on KDE 4.8 RC1 (using Kubuntu's beta ppa) with maximized Dolphin windows. As long as the window is not maximized, it minimizes to the taskbar, but if I maximize it, it then minimizes to the center of the screen, and even if I restore it it keeps minimizing to the center. Switching desktops then fixes it again.
Comment 5 S. Christian Collins 2012-08-03 16:29:48 UTC
This still happens in KDE 4.9. Here is how I can reproduce this bug every time:
1) Install Firefox, and install the Firetray addon (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/firetray/)
2) In the Firetray plugin settings, disable "Minimizing window hides to tray" and "Closing window hides to tray".
3) Close and reopen Firefox, then minimize it. The minimize animation zooms to the center of the screen almost every time I try this. If this doesn't happen, closing Firefox and reopening it usually does the trick.

I have also observed that this bug does not happen with launch feedback taskbar notification disabled (it's in System Settings -> Application and System Notifications -> Launch Feedback). Make sure to log off and back on after changing this setting.
Comment 6 Nikola Kovacs 2012-08-05 11:02:22 UTC
Still happening as described in Comment 4, with KDE 4.9, with one important addition: It seems to only happen with manual sorting.
Comment 7 S. Christian Collins 2012-08-06 15:07:54 UTC
I can confirm that I am also using manual sorting for the taskbar. Also, it appears that disabling launch feedback taskbar notification does not completely work around this bug. It just makes it harder to reproduce the bug using the steps in comment 5.

Setting status to confirmed.
Comment 9 gregpitta19 2012-11-21 18:01:22 UTC
I had similar problem. A workaround is to remove the window manager/list widget from the panel and adding it again.

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
