Created attachment 61937 [details] Snapshot of the window, as it appears now. Version: 2.16 (using KDE 4.6.3) OS: Linux The main purpose of that option is to be able to easily navigate your way to a destination directory. However, the UI is designed in such a way that the directory tree window is only 50 pixels wide. This means that I can't actually browse anywhere, because all I can see are some vague lines and folder icons. When maximizing the window I can clearly see it all, but I don't WANT to. I need the window to be smaller. None of the panes in this window are resizable, and that's a shame because the shortcuts pane and the Extract All Files pane are too large and take up all the space. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Right-click an archive in Dolphin. Select Extract Archive to... Actual Results: You get a crappy window that won't let you do what you actually want to. Expected Results: You get a nice window where it is easy to browse to the destination directory and extract the archive. Two possible solutions: 1. Make the panes resizable. This is (I think) the easiest solution and allows for user customization so that everybody can have it the way they want. 2. Redesign the entire UI. Perhaps the Extract All Files pane should be smaller, located on the bottom.... Perhaps the shortcuts pane should be smaller...
Thanks for the report, it is already being tracked in bug 249476. In 4.6.5 and 4.7.0 the default dialog size is more reasonable, so things should already be better. There's a patch to make it possible to change the width of the directory tree without having to resize the whole dialog, but I haven't finished it to make it upstream yet. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 249476 ***
