Created attachment 61821 [details] short, silent audio file for reproducing bug Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.4) OS: Linux Upon inserting an audio CD with many tracks, plasma will temporarily hang as will any apps that access the CD in any way (Dolphin, Audex, etc.). The length of the hang seems to be related to the number of Audio CD tracks. Dolphin, for example, will hang, and eventually become somewhat responsive again (until you try to resize it or minimize/restore). Hiding the CD-ROM entry from the "Places" pane seems to mitigate this. I discovered this bug when trying to rip Nine Inch Nails' 1992 CD "Broken", which features 99 tracks (most of them blank). On my system, inserting this CD causes plasma to hang for almost a minute, although it doesn't seem to affect apps like Firefox that I have open at the same time. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1) Create an audio CD with 99 tracks. I just used a simple audio file with about 2 seconds of silence. It is attached to this bug report. 2) Insert the newly created audio CD into the CD-ROM drive. Actual Results: Plasma, Dolphin, Audex (and more, I'm sure) hangs. Expected Results: For nothing to hang. ** My System ** OS: Kubuntu 11.04 64-bit w/ KDE SC 4.6.5 Motherboard: ASRock X58 Extreme3 (Intel X58 chipset) CPU: Intel Core i7 (2.8 GHz quad-core) RAM: 12GB DDR3 Video: Dell NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX w/ 256 MB RAM (PCI Express) Sound Card #1: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Gold Sound Card #2: Echo Gina3G Linux Kernel: 2.6.38-8-generic NVIDIA video driver: 275.09.07 Screen Resolution: 1280 x 960
This bug is still present in KDE 4.7.2 Also, I've noticed that audio CDs with fewer tracks will still affect Dolphin's performance, but not as badly.
I have an identical problem with a cd. The problem also occurs with a usb DVDrom drive. The CD that is the cause of this problem has 99 tracks. A "normal" music cd slows dolphin down , but to a much lesser effect.
This bug doesn't seem to happen anymore with KDE SC 4.9.
