Version: 4.4.11 (using KDE 4.6.4) OS: Linux It feels like network access in kontact is done in the same thread as everything else, thus waiting for a response from the network blocks the GUI as well. This is very annoying sometimes as the GUI (including KMail's message composer window) can become unresponsive for seconds, and this significantly slows down message editing. I'm not sure that this is the real cause of the problem, but it definitely feels like that. My experience shows that the situation gets worse and worse as the RTT increases. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Use a network with a big RTT. Here's a nice guide to artificially add latency to an interface: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/networking/netem Expected Results: GUI functions should not be blocked by background operations. OS: Linux (x86_64) release 3.0.0-rc6-amd64 Compiler: gcc
