Description philippe.quaglia 2011-07-12 13:02:16 UTC
Version: 2.0.0
OS: Linux

It looks like their is currently no link between faces and "people" tags.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
Have made face detection (works very well !), and marked some faces, but it does not create a link with the corresponding "people" tag.

Expected Results:
To have a direct link between detected faces and people tags.

Hello Marcel, sorry for being unclear. I attached a picture (above) as example. For pictures already tagged with some persons, Face recognition should propose the tagged name as default in the face identification page. Seems more obvious than the previous tagged persons as currently. I though there was another problem, but may be it was with a previous release, I have not find any other.
Great job anyhow !!!
Best regards (will be offline for some time).

Yes, I understand this now ;-)

What if there are multiple people tags on a single picture?

Todd is right. Proposing face identities based on tags is not a good idea.
Images may have multiple face regions and multiple face tags already assigned but not linked to the faces. This could mislead the recognition.

I also think that, personally, this is not a very good idea.

Suggesting a person based on a tag may induce some wrong "tagging", especially for pictures of people you barely know (as in old family pictures of relatives), which may cause some sort of "confirmation bias", in the case the original tag is also wrong.

I think suggestions should be based on face recognition alone. I prefer to have some unknown/unconfirmed people in a picture than false positives.

7.0.0-beta1 is out with new Face Recognition algorithm based on Deep
Learning/Neural Network API from OpenCV

Please test and give us a feedback

See the Neural Network example from digiKam 7.0.0-beta1 performing faces
recognition with 2 items face-tagged in first.

https://i.imgur.com/HHF4T9X.png

1 new item is recognized, name-tagged, highlighted with green frame, and linked
in "unconfirmed" virtual tag for confirmation.

Recognition work well using Deep Learning and give 97% of true positive
results. Look well my comments on the screenshot and the behavior implemented. I close this file now.

Merry Christmas and Happy new year.
