Description Matthias 2011-07-05 07:52:44 UTC
Version: 2.1.0 (using KDE 4.6.4)
OS: Linux

The new KMail2 is still very slow and very very very unreliable on my system. I need to restart Akonadi 12-14 times a day, because KMail don't want to update folders and i get random errors for different folders.

Example:
- I want to sent a mail, Kmail says: "Local Folders: Error: Unsupported Type". After a akonadi-restart, the message is sent and i see the message "E-Mail successfully sent"

- The view of a new folder with >1000 mails needs 10-20 seconds. Sometimes KMail don't show new mails. Some folders are empty. Opening a mail (Retrieving Folder Contents) needs 4-6 seconds.

- KMails needs ~1 minute until all IMAP resources (9) are loaded

- KMail crashes sometimes when using the left Folder search, error: Application: KMail (kmail), signal: Segmentation fault [Current thread is 1 (Thread 0x7f59cc5f2760 (LWP 21483))]

At the moment i'm searching for a way to downgrade to the old KMail 1.x. It was very fast and stable and i loved it. But KMail 2 is the slowest mail client i know with more bugs than Outlook Express :-(

The other error is:
Local Folders: Unable to list items

(while deleting messages)

No other comments and no answer, that makes me really sad :-(

I know that you all have a lot of work to do, but is there any information about the speed issues? I just wanted to know if there is a possibility to optimize the speed of kmail+akonadi+mysqld? It's really unusable in its current state.

As a workaround, I downgraded to the last kmail1 version and i'm happy with it. It's very fast and i can use 10 IMAP Accounts with many many folders and mails without a problem. I hope there is a way to use kmail1 in the future, a kmail1-fork would be really nice.

Thanks

If you use the git master version, you should notice that kmail2 is now faster, almost as fast as kmail1 showing folder contents (I hope).

If you think it is good enough, please close this bug report.

Please reopen with a new list of issues if you still think this is present.
