Version: 2.1.0 (using KDE 4.6.4)
OS: Linux

When I go to delete a message it appears to move and then at sometime later after a mail check the message reappears in the original message list greyed out and unclickable, like a ghost message.

The message does appear correctly the trash folder though.

Sometimes the ghost message stays around for a while, and sometimes it goes away quickly.

Actual Results:
Message reappears in original message list greyed out.

Expected Results:
message doesn't reappear.

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.38-8-generic
Compiler: cc

Happens here too on the 11.11 beta 2
Comment 2 P. Varet 2011-10-15 15:24:15 UTC
Same here in KMail 4.7.2.

Happens for me too. imap maildir. kmail 4.7.2
Also the same is true for moving mails from one folder to another.
Its a really annoying bug.

Sundance and Svein, Would you mind voting, at the top of the bug report, I can't believe this bug is in a shipping product so lets get it addressed.

I can't use a mail client that is unable to delete messages.
Thunderbird is looking fairly tempting, even with half-working 'ignore thread' at least my real email wont get lost in the sea of ghosts.

I was able to get around this bug by clearing all my accounts and recreating them. It was sort of a pain, but I haven't seen the 'ghost' messages since. I think the problem is when the transfer from kmail -> kmail2. I am guessing the migration doesn't work as well as expected.

In any case, In my experience just recreating your accounts should fix things. Not a fix, but it does get around the issue, at least it did for me.

I had to not only delete all references to kmail/kontact, but also akonadi, on one computer. And the problem presisted.

Tried to remove the account and re add it, and the ghost messages did in fact disappear. Thanks, much better now.

Well, removing and adding the account was a trial in itself. Random hangs and pauses after pressing add/remove/modify buttons but it did do it in the end.
Ghosts are gone. Bulk operations (mark read / delete) that used to almost always causes ghosts now seem OK.

Yet another 'why was this bug (in migration ?) found in the beta let into the production release' one :-/

I had a similar problem:

enabling
"Options" -> your (for example) IMAP-ressource -> tab "advanced" -> "compress folders" (3rd checkbox)

...solved it (so KMail deletes those mails).

If this solves the problem for others, its not a bug. But maybe KMail defaults are problematic here (?).

This has begin happening again. Removing the account no longer seems to fix it :-(
Changeing the auto-delete option as per #9 has no effect in either position.

happens to me in kde 4.8.0, archlinux, tip from #9 works for me

One workaround which worked for me here: Open akonadiconsole and delte the message there (Browser tab). This seems to work, I don't know if there are any side effects though.
