Description Andre Woebbeking 2011-06-25 10:10:58 UTC
Version:           2.1.0 (using Devel)
OS:                Linux

Hi,

sometimes I want to keep some sent mails so I move them to a folder. With KMail2 the mail is moved and if I visit the folder I can see the moved mail but after some time (minutes) maybe due to switching folders the moved mail is gone.

In this case I wanted to move mails from the local sent folder to the inbox of an online IMAP account.

Cheers,
André

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
It already happened before, but it seems not to happen every time. Not sure whether it's important but the disappeared mails were part of a thread where I replied to a reply.

Expected Results:
Moved mails should not disappear.

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.39-2-amd64
Compiler: gcc

Confirmed. While reading a bunch of mails, all new mails (all since akonadi migration) suddenly disappeared without further comment. They did not reappear after kontact restart. Will report back if they reappear after killing the resource ..

mixedmaildir resource.

After killing the resource, letting it reload, mails reappear in the inbox. Seems they were never properly moved on disk and got lost in akonadi nirvana.

After downgrading to stable KMail1 from KDE 4.6, all mails can again be found in the inbox, so it appears that not a single mail was actually properly moved on disk.

I can confirm this issue.

When the automatic migration of my kmail local mails failed, I manually created two akonadi resources: a mixedmaildir resource pointing to ~/.kde4/apps/kmail/mail and a maildir resource pointing to ~/.local/share/local-mail.
Then I manually copied the mails from the mixedmaildir resource to the maildir resource using drag-and-drop within kmail.

When I looked for some mail yesterday, a lot of the copied mails (not all of them, though) suddenly had disappeared. Mails still were present up to a certain subfolder level (e.g. local-mail/archive/family/) but all the subfolders of this level and the mails within them (e.g. local-mail/archive/family/uncle-sam/) were lost.

The lost subfolders and mails do not exist in ~/.local/share/.local-mail.directory/.archive.directory/.family.directory/ either.

Since I realised having lost my mails straight after the KDE 4.7 upgrade, I assume that this issue might be related to that, too (as suggested by comment #3).

@Marcel Wiesweg: What did you do exactly to make the mails disappear? What do you mean by "killing the resource"? Did you delete the resource in the "Akonady Resources Configuration" an recreate it? What else?

Do you still this KDE 4.7.2 or newer?
Comment 6 Andre Woebbeking 2011-12-07 21:57:42 UTC
No, but I switched from mixedmaildir to plain maildir resource.

Please, make a control with "akonadi console"
Choose "DB Browser", "collectiontable", "Refresh"
Get a look to the column "remoteId".
Are there any cell(s) with nothing? If yes, let me/us know by copying the raw(s).

I can confirm this on kmail2 4:4.11.3-1.

This is my folder structure:

Local Folder
-> Incoming Mail (kmail2 system folder)
-> Mail Out (kmail2 system folder)
-> Sent Mail (kmail2 system folder)
-> Trash (kmail2 system folder)
-> "Entwürfe" (kmail2 system folder)
-> Templates (kmail2 system folder)
-> MyFolder1
-> MyFolder2
...
...

Some of my folders have subfolders.

I have used "akonadi console"
"DB Browser", "collectiontable", "Refresh"
column "remoteId".
Are there any cell(s) with nothing?
-> Almost ALL of my personal subfolders have the cell empty. A small number of entries is fine. It is impossible to do any copying from entries on the remoteId cell column, as all options to do that are greyed out.

I did a clean install of all kde 4.11.x, i.e. after apt-get dist-upgrade i deleted all kde folders on my /home directory and did a clean install of kmail2. I created all my mail adresses from scratch (no copying/importing). I also entered all my personal sub-folders from scratch and copied all mails manually after importing from old mail folder.

Just to make sure: I confirmed the reappearing of moved mails. I frequently move incoming mails into my sub-folders to remove them from the system (kmail2) incoming mail folder and categorize mails by topic. When I do that, after a few seconds, they reappear and create doubletts.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kmail2 (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.12 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

I can confirm that this still happens with version 5.2.3

A number of older eMails that I have kept in my inbox to move them out of inbox to another local mail folder keep re-appearing whenever I move them out of inbox folder and hit "Nach eMail sehen" ("search for emails") in the menu.

I have updated kmail severail times since these emails came in, only them seem to be affected. It does not seem to happen with newly incoming emails anymore.

Thanks for reporting back, reopening.
