Description incarus6 2011-06-20 13:17:52 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.4)
OS: Linux

I cannot open jar files with java, because KDE thinks it is a zip file (with Ark as default software) and I cannot reconfigure the filetype to open with java because it would open zip files with java in that case.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
# kmimetypefinder -f *.jar
application/x-java-archive
(accuracy 100)

# kmimetypefinder -c *.jar
application/zip
(accuracy 40)

KDE seems to prefer the content of a file (-c) to the filename (-f) which is causing that issue due to the filecontent-similarity of zip and jar files (?).

I was curious about this so I found a solution from https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=201171.

Right-click a Java .jar file in your file manager and from the context menu select "Open With". In the input box at the top of the dialog enter this command:
/usr/bin/java -jar
Then tick the box "Remember application association for this type of file" at the bottom and click on the button "OK" to close the dialog. Problem solved. When you now double-click Java .jar files in your file manager they will run as expected.

Can you please test and confirm if this issue is still occurring or if this bug report can be marked as resolved. I've set the bug status to "needsinfo" pending your response, please change back to "reported" or "resolved" when you respond, thanks.
